1% for Non-Profits – The Longfellow Elementary School Jog-A-Thon

As a Longfellow Elementary family, I do what I can to fund special events and educational programs. My son’s education depends on Longfellow PTA programs and other school initiatives that are held throughout the year. I want his elementary school experience to be well-rounded and intellectually stimulating.

The Longfellow Elementary Jog-A-Thon, which took place on March 17 (St. Patrick’s Day), is a great opportunity for the kids to participate in fund-raising for important school events and programs.

The main purpose of the event was to help our school raise as much money as possible to help offset the loss of class size reductions. Fundraisers like this should help teachers bring in aides and instructional specialists to assist them  with larger class sizes in the 2010-2011 school year.

Other great PTA programs that the Jog-A-Thon helps are:

  • Art in Schools
  • Career Day
  • Character Education
  • Classroom Enhancements
  • Field Trips
  • Library Resources
  • Meet the Masters
  • Read at Home Program (RAH)
  • Red Ribbon Week
  • Student Assistance Fund
  • Link Newsletter

To help the school continue to offer these great programs, Shandrow Group pledged $700.00.

Education and participation are very important to our community. Longfellow Elementary is a great Bixby Knolls school, and it’s a shame they’re experiencing such drastic cuts while trying to provide the high quality education we’ve come to expect.

Sincerely,
